Setting Up Meta Pixel And E-commerce Tracking

The Meta Ads platform allows businesses and individuals to run advertisements across Meta's platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp.

Setting-up Meta Ads requires installing configuration code on your website known as a "Meta Pixel", as well as some verification steps.

This article will provide instructions on how to set up:

Domain Verification
Meta Pixel
Meta Pixel Helper
Meta E-commerce Conversion Tracking

Domain Verification

Claiming ownership of your website by verifying your domain allows Meta to confirm that you are the legitimate owner of the website associated with your business. This verification is crucial for several reasons:

  • Grants control over conversion events: It enables you to determine which events on your website, such as purchases or sign-ups, are eligible for tracking and advertising purposes.
  • Manages link editing permissions: Verified domains grant you the authority to control who can edit links associated with your ads and business page.
  • Improves ad performance: Some Meta advertising features may become unavailable without domain verification.

Verify Domain

  • Sign in to your Meta Business Manager.
  • Go to Business Settings > Brand safety and suitability > Domains.
  • Click the "Add" button on the right-hand page and then click "Create a new domain".
  • Enter your domain into the pop-up window.
  • Select the option "Add a meta-tag to your HTML source code" to verify your domain.
  • Click the meta-tag code to copy to clipboard.

  • Go to your Oncord website and edit the website design (Dashboard > Website > Designs, select the design to edit).
  • Click "SOURCE" in the left menu to view the source code of your website design.
  • Paste the code just after the <head> tag.
  • Click the "Save" button located at the top left of the screen.
  • Go back to the Meta domain verification page and click the "Verify Domain" button.

Meta Pixel

The Meta Pixel is a piece of code that you place on your website, enabling you to measure the effectiveness of your advertising by understanding the actions people take on your website.

Before setting up the Meta Pixel, you need to visit https://business.facebook.com/ to prepare your Meta Business Manager account. Here, you can create your Meta Business Account and Ads Account.

Install Meta Pixel into Oncord

Once you've completed the Meta Business Manager, Meta Business Account, and Ads Account setup, it's time to install your Meta Pixel on your website.

After creating a meta Pixel, there are two common methods for installing a Meta Pixel on an Oncord website:

It should take up to 24 hours for Meta to start data collection.

Method 2: Install the Meta Pixel through Google Tag Manager (GTM)

You can also configure the Meta Pixel through Google Tag Manager (GTM).

  • Scroll down and click the "Triggering" box to configure a trigger for this tag.
  • Select the "All Pages" option from the list.
  • Click the "Save" button at the top-right of the page.

Meta Pixel Helper

The Pixel Helper is a Chrome Browser extension that automatically reviews websites for Meta Pixel code. Once installed, a </> icon, the Pixel Helper icon, appears in the upper right corner of the browser near the address bar.

When a website has a Meta Pixel installed, the icon turns blue, and a badge shows the number of Pixels found on the webpage. If the icon remains gray, no Meta Pixels are installed on the webpage.

Install Meta Pixel Helper

To use the Meta Pixel Helper you must:

After installing the Pixel Helper extension, navigate to your website in the Chrome browser, and click on the Pixel Helper icon. The popup will tell what Pixels were found on the webpage, and whether they have loaded successfully.

Meta E-commerce Conversion Tracking

Once the Meta Pixel has been successfully created and installed on your Oncord website, Meta e-commerce conversion tracking will be enabled automatically.

When an online order is placed on your website, an event called "Purchase" will be created and sent with the currency and value of the order to your Meta Business Events Manager. You can also check the event via the Meta Pixel Helper.

View the Activity

All conversions and events, such as Purchase and Page View, can be monitored in your Meta Business Events Manager. Here, you can further configure your Facebook ads and analyze the effectiveness of campaigns.

  • Sign in to your Meta Business Manager.
  • Go to "Event Manger" via Dashboard > All Tools.
  • Click "Data Source" in the left-hand menu.
  • Choose the corresponding pixel that has installed in your Oncord website.
